
Metacognition in Science: Building student agency and independence

This unique program combines a full day in-person workshop with online follow-up coaching to explore evidence-informed approaches to building student metacognitive capacity in science.
You will explore:
- What metacognition is and why it matters (and how it compliments the nature of science);
- Drawing on evidence from research and practice to take an evidence-informed approach to implementing metacognitive strategies;
- Using with the metacognitive process to build student knowledge of task, strategies and self, through cycles of planning, monitoring and evaluation; and
- Practical strategies for implementing metacognition in science teaching such as modelling thinking, organising knowledge, scaffolding discussion, worked examples, structured reflection and effective study strategies,
This professional learning is evidence-informed and is aligned with school system priorities including the implementation of the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0, Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Flourishing Learners and Sandhurst Diocese Magnify.
