This unique initiative combines a full day in-person workshop with online follow-up coaching to support you to elevate your teaching practice in science.
Grounded in research evidence and experience from practice, each program explores aspects of explicit teaching in science. Choose the program that best aligns with your needs and priorities. Both in-person and online options are available.
All programs will start by exploring:
- key ingredients of explicit teaching
- evidence-informed resources to support science teaching practice
- curriculum-aligned planning to support teaching with Victorian Curriculum 2.0 Science
Program 1: memory, scaffolding and worked examples
This practical full-day workshop will focus on:
- implications models of memory and cognitive load for teaching and learning
- scaffolding learning in science and the gradual release of responsibility
- effective strategies for using worked examples in science
Program 2: addressing misconceptions, scientific vocabulary and scaffolding discussion
This practical full-day workshop will focus on:
- developing scientific vocabulary
- effective approaches for uncovering and addressing student misconceptions
- keys to scaffolding productive student discussion
Program 3: effective modelling, feedback and self-reflection
This practical full-day workshop will focus on:
- effective approaches for modelling knowledge and skills for students in science
- keys for structured progress monitoring and feedback that moves learning forward
- strategies for supporting effective student self-reflection
This professional learning is evidence-informed and is aligned with school system priorities including the implementation of the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0, Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Flourishing Learners and Sandhurst Diocese Magnify.
