STAVCON is STAV’s premier annual conference for science educators in Victoria, bringing together classroom practitioners, education leaders, researchers, and innovators to share ideas, challenge thinking, and shape the future of science education.
This year’s theme, Beyond the Curriculum: Exploring the Future of Science Teaching and Learning, recognises that while curriculum frameworks provide the structure for learning, exceptional science education extends far beyond content delivery and assessment. It is about creating learning experiences that inspire curiosity, encourage critical thinking, embrace innovation, and prepare students for a rapidly changing world.
VCAA provides a strong framework through Victorian Curriculum 2.0 — with clear topics, achievement standards, and assessment criteria. But the real magic happens when that framework is brought to life in the classroom. That’s where STAVCON comes in. This is where theory meets practice, and educators come together to explore innovative, engaging, and effective ways to teach science — and to spark deeper learning in every student.
STAVCON 2026 will provide a platform for dynamic discussions and evidence-based strategies that support high-quality teaching and learning across early years, primary and secondary science. The conference will explore emerging priorities in science education, including future-focused pedagogies, tried and tested evidence-based practices, interdisciplinary learning, technology integration, wellbeing, sustainability, equity, authentic real-world connections, and the integration of Indigenous Science into science education.
We’re seeking dynamic presentations that explore innovative, evidence-based, and practical approaches to teaching science across primary and secondary levels. Whether you’re developing curriculum-aligned resources, trialling new pedagogical approaches, integrating cross-disciplinary thinking into your practice, incorporating Indigenous Science, or exploring what the future of science education could look like, we want to hear from you.
Your voice could help shape the future of science education.
