LabTalk

  • November 19, 2024

This issue begins with a tribute to Dr Jackie Lang, one of STAV’s founding members and first female president and its longest-serving council member. Dr Lang was an inspiring science teacher, and we hope that this article empowers us all as science educators to continue championing our subject areas and inspiring our students. Dr. Gary Simpson provides insights into ongoing classroom research for the “New Metrics for Success” project. Naomi Sutanto and Dr. Emma Stevenson explore traditional fabric dyeing methods for Year 7-10 chemistry students. STS student bursary winner Liam Shaw’s ‘wilderness survival tent’ project is highlighted and is based on biomimicry of the Brush-turkey’s mounds to generate heat. The “Ask the Lab Tech” article considers science labs in the near future without Bunsen burners. Read more here: LabTalk
